ABSTRACT
The term Human Trafficking is one coined almost immediately after the official ban on slave trade, and became known also as the 'modern slavery'. Human Trafficking is the height of evil a human being can commit towards another human being, it is unacceptable, sinful, wicked and pernicious. Nigeria is a source, transit and destination country for human trafficking thus hampering the national development of the country. The act of human trafficking is specially helped and sponsored by corruption and bribery which has further led to the moral decadence of the country almost in all areas and has hindered the country's ability of attracting foreign investments and economic development as well. The establishment of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) as an agency with the constitutional responsibility of making, enforcing, and implementing human trafficking laws as well as prosecuting offenders in Nigeria is visible result of the global collaboration to curb human trafficking. The study therefore examined the historical antecedent that necessitated the establishment of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons as well as the functions of the Agency in curbing the menace of human trafficking in Nigeria.
