EFFECT OF FUNCTIONAL EXERCISE ON SOME CARDIOVASCULAR INDICES

ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in women worldwide, accounting for over one-third of all deaths. However, there is a growing body of evidence suggesting that regular exercise can significantly reduce the risk of CVD in women. Functional exercise is a type of exercise that mimics activities of daily living. It is often used to improve balance, coordination, and strength. Functional exercise has also been shown to have a number of benefits for cardiovascular health. This study aimed to assess the effects of functional exercise on some cardiovascular indices in young female students. A total of 52 healthy female participants aged 18-27 years were recruited for the study. The participants underwent a 6-minute walk test (6MWT) to assess their cardiovascular fitness. Blood pressure and pulse rate were measured before and after the 6MWT. Statistical analysis was done using graphpad prism version 8.1. Results were presented as mean ±SEM(standard error of mean). Paired student t- test was used to compare the mean of test and control values. P value of < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. The results showed that functional exercise had a positive effect on cardiovascular health. After the 6MWT, there was a significant increase in blood pressure and pulse rate. This indicates that the participants' hearts were working harder and more efficiently to pump blood throughout the body. The findings of this study suggest that functional exercise can be an effective intervention for improving cardiovascular health in young women. This is important because cardiovascular disease is a major health problem for women of all ages. In conclusion, the results of this study indicates that a six-minute walk exercise can have significant effects on some blood pressure indices in young female adults. Specifically, significant increases in pulse rate, systolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, and pulse pressure following the exercise.
