SUMMARY
Foreign cultures have both beneficial and bad influences on Awka-Etiti. especially if it is recognized that both sides benefited from the interaction. The encounter, despite having a rocky beginning due to the wars and deceit by its neighbor, laid the groundwork for improvement in the Awka-Etiti community and also established better relationships with others on account of them being hostile towards outsiders due to their distrust of others and their history of wars with their neighbors.1 They underwent several changes as a result of the experience, including being exposed to a market-based economy, which they found difficult to cope with financially. Roads, bridges, ports, and airports were often built in the territories administered by colonial powers.2 The British used a variety of exploitative practices, including the employment of forced labor and the exploitation of natural resources. Due to exposure to foreign cultures, the Awka-Etiti people have lost their right to self-government. This suggests that they virtually lost control of their affairs and, more importantly, were dominated by a foreign power.
