Abstract

This project investigates the diminishing number of male journalists in media houses within Benin City, focusing on the Nigerian Observer and Edo Broadcasting Station. The study aims to examine the effects of decreasing male enrollment in journalism, the coping mechanisms employed by media houses, and to propose strategies for attracting more males to the field. Utilizing a survey research methodology, data was collected from a population of 98 students through census sampling techniques. Questionnaires were employed as the primary data collection instrument, and the data was analyzed using simple percentage methods. The findings will provide insights into the current gender dynamics in journalism within the region and offer practical recommendations for media houses to address gender imbalances.
