ABSTRACT

Bamboo is a naturally available, fast growing and renewable resource. Bamboo plants are found worldwide in both tropical and non-tropical regions. Except for Lagos and Bayelsa, where there is a somewhat smaller distribution, bamboo may be found in abundance throughout all of Southern Nigeria. Research must be done to see whether employing other waste materials, such as bamboo, is feasible. Bamboo are environmental friendly and less expensive. Due to its natural availability in the society, the cost on construction of houses will be reduced there by aiding the masses. Bamboo as a reinforcement as not yet fully been understood, it is termed to have a weak bond with concrete even though been a low carbon footprint which makes which makes it an ideal building material with high mechanical properties. A concrete-to-bamboo weak bond solution is offered: corrugation. This project stems from an article by Abdullah Khatib and Nounu. It was stated from the result that corrugated and treated bamboo splints achieves the strongest bonds, the splints treated with linseed oil and with 2mm projections with B:A = 1:1.5 achieves the greatest bond out of other ratio and projections. This project through supervision works on the effect of corrugated bamboo of the above ratio and projection coated with very little epoxy paint on concrete flexural strength in comparison with bamboo reinforcement without corrugation. It was seen that corrugation does helps in not only increasing the bond between bamboo and concrete but it also increases its bending strength. The flexural strength capacity of the CR beam was seen to be capable of withstanding load at least up to 1 floor building.
