ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effect of cooperative learning technique on mathematics achievement among SSII students in Oredo LGA, Edo state. The population of the study consisted of 450 SSII Mathematics students in Oredo LGA, with a sampling technique being used to select 80 of these students. A structured questionnaire was employed to gather information directly from the respondents. Results showed that cooperative learning improved problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and collaboration among students. The study also found that cooperative learning promoted a positive learning environment and self-efficacy in mathematics. However some challenges and limitations in implementing cooperative learning were utterly identified, which includes large class sizes and inadequate resources. The study recommends the adoption of cooperative learning in mathematics classrooms to improve student achievement and suggests strategies for addressing the challenges and limitations. The findings contribute to the existing body of research on cooperative learning and mathematics education, highlighting the abilities of this teaching method to enhance student learning results.
