ABSTRACT

The study was carried out on the effect of bush burning on the soil texture, chemical properties and micronutrients which was conducted at the teaching and research farm of Benson Idahosa University. Three samples were collected randomly at a depth of 0-20cm from a delineated bushy farm about 1.08ha and analyzed for soil particle distribution, pH, EC, total N, organic C, available P, Ca, Mg, Na, K, EA, ECEC, base Saturation and few micronutrients (Fe, Cu, Zn, Cr and Cd). There were increase in sand particles, EC, C, N, available P, Na, K, EA, ECEC while reduction in clay particles, pH, Ca, Mg, base saturation and the micronutrients(Fe. Cu, Zn, Cr and Cd) , however only that of Zn was significant (p ≤ 0.05). Farmers should avoid burning especially when they intend to grow crops that require high Zn concentration.
