ABSTRACT
Reproduction is a central aspect of rabbit husbandry, and litter size is an important aspect of rabbit breeding. Rabbits are known for their rapid reproduction rates and ability to efficiently convert feed into high-quality protein, making them a valuable resource in addressing global food security concerns. In the pursuit of optimizing rabbit production, various factors have been explored, and one of the pivotal factors under investigation is birth weight. Birth weight is an important factor that can affect the litter size and post-weaning performance of rabbits. Rabbits with a higher birth weight are more likely to have a larger litter size and better post-weaning performance than those with a lower birth weight. The weight of a rabbit at birth has a direct correlation with its subsequent growth and development. Low birth weight has been reported to affect the survival rate, litter size, and weight of the offspring. In rabbits, individual birth weight is about 60-70 grams, but can range from 35-40 to 80-90 grams. Post weaning performance refers to the growth and development of the rabbit after weaning. Weaning weight is a vital determinant of post weaning performance, and it is influenced by factors such as litter size, birth weight, and overall nutrition of the rabbit.
