ABSTRACT
Mimosa pudica is commonly known as "sensitive plant". The plant is often grown for undercover. Mimosa pudica is a creeping annual or perennial flowering plant of the pea/legume family Fabaceae. The species is native to south and central America, but is now a tropical weed and can now be found in the southern United states, South Asia, East Asia, Australia and South Africa as well. Mimosa pudica contains the toxic alkaloid Mimosine, which has been found to also have antipoliferative and apoptotic effects. Based on statistics, for organ weight- there were no significant differences in lungs weight (P>0.05). There were statistically significant increases (P<0.05) of body weights in all the groups when the initial body weight is compared to the final body weight. There was a statistically significant increase (P<0.05) in the hematocrit value in Group B, when compared to the control group. There was a statistically significant decrease (P>0.05) of mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration in group E, when compared to the control group. There was a statistically significant increase (P<0.05) of platelecrit in group E, when compared to the control group. In conclusion, Mimosa pudica has a protective and amelioratic effects against mosquito repellent-induced injury in the lungs and its effects is dose dependent. It is more effective at the low dosage by causing bronchiolar dilatation.
