ABSTRACT
Nigeria is one of the leading producers of plantain in the world, but has failed to take her place among the leading exporters of plantain worldwide. This study evaluated the Economics of Plantain Production in Ovia North East Local Government, Edo State. The study specifically described the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents in the study area, determine cost and returns in plantain production, estimate farmer’s technical and allocative efficiencies and examine their constraint associated with plantain production. A two-staged sampling procedure was used to select respondents for the study. The first stage involved a purposive selection of 4 communities on the basis of proximity to one another in order to reduce heterogeneity in sampling. The second stage involved a simple random sampling of plantain farmers in the study area.
