ECONOMIC DEPENDENCY AND THE THIRD WORLD UNDERDEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA: THE TRUE REALITY OF NIGERIA’S UNDERDEVELOPMENT

ABSTRACT

This research project examines Economic dependency and third word underdevelopment in Africa, using Nigeria as a point of focus. The study set out to find out the nature,pattern,and dynamics of Nigeria’s underdevelopment and the issue of dependency.Both secondary and primary sources of data were used. This study adopted the Dependency theory as well as, the World system theory as its theoretical framework. The interview method were used to gather data from respondents.The responses were then analyzed thematically,which means similar responses were grouped together.This approach helped,to make sense of the data and draw meaningful conclusions .The study also, identifies the root causes of dependency in Nigeria which has hindered economic growth and development in the country. And the debacle behind the numerous issues Nigeria faces. The study recommends effective formulation and implementation of policies capable of tackling the root causes of dependency and underdevelopment in Nigeria,
