ABSTRACT
So far in this essay we have examined the economic benefits of local rice in Nigeria taking Abakaliki rice as its case study from 2015-2019. The study examined the rice varieties development in Nigeria. The study examined origins of Abakaliki rice production in Nigeria, the economic benefits of Abakaliki rice to Ebonyi and Nigeria economic as whole, and the challenges to Abakaliki rice production in Nigeria. The study revealed that the fastest trend through which a nation can achieve sustainable economic growth and development is neither by the level of its endowed material resources (like in the case of Nigeria), nor its vast human resources but technological innovation, enterprise development and industrial capacity as well as manufacturing. Manufacturing remained a viable instrument for the national development. It has the capacity for creating employment and generating the national developmental capacity. It can open the door of opportunity in other sector of the economy. The manufacturing industry has drawn the attention of the intellectual circle both in developing and developed countries.
