ABSTRACT
This study is concerned with the documentation and analysis of the stylistic features of Ezeagu folksongs. The objectives of the study are to identify the stylistic features embedded in Ezeagu folksongs, categorize the identified folksongs. This tudy is a survey research and design with a qualitative paradigm. The study is anchored on systematic functional linguistic theoretical framework. Data for the study was collected through oral interview and participant observation. The data collected were analyzed descriptively. The findings of the study reveal that Ezeagu folksongs are categorized into dirges, birth songs, marriage songs, war songs, work songs, cradle songs and lullabies. The finding of the study also reveals that repetitions, rhythm, metaphor, personification, assonance and consonance constituted the prominent stylistic features embedded in Ezeagu folksongs. Moreover, the study further found out that folksongs perform numerous functions like economic, magico-religious, entertainment, political, socio-cultural and educational functions.
