ABSTRACT
Diminutives and Augmentatives are very important elements in Edo Language as they indicate largeness and smallness of Edo words. It is rather vital to take this as an important area of concentration as we progress in the learning of Edo words. Augmentatives and diminutive forms are variants of words that express greater or lesser intensity frequent referring to the size of an object or person, but there are many uses. Augmenting or diminuting a word, as well as being a useful descriptive tool, can lead to the condition of entirely new words.
An interview was carried out between competent speakers of the indigenous language. The participants include Traders, Farmers, and Chiefs etc. The participants were between the ages of 30-60 years old. This study uses the Qualitative method of research to collect data.
This study made a series of findings which are a symphony of insights into the Diminution and Augmentation of Edo Language. It is the recommendation of this study that Augmentation and Diminution is an important process in Edo language.
