ABSTRACT
These strategies primarily relate to the identification, separate collection and composting of specific organic waste streams such as vegetables and food waste from food markets and urban households Specifically, in the Benin Region (Nigeria), over 80% of municipal solid waste is dumped into the environment due to lack of efficient waste management strategies.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a field-scale demonstration project in the region to manage organic waste streams from food markets and households, as well as to implement composting technology in other areas.
This is one of the proposed alternatives that will be extended to developing regions to manage and recycle urban waste streams as well as to obtain organic fertilizers that contain economic value additions in terms of nutritional content. It reflects feasibility.
