ABSTRACT

This project investigated weight reduction strategies for the Boeing 737's landing gear while maintaining structural integrity. Two approaches were explored: replacing the main strut with a dual configuration and the use of a hybrid plunger. The dual strut model was able to distribute load more effectively and produce lesser stress concentrations than the single strut model by achieving an around 12% drop in maximum stress, while having a weight which is 5.4% less than the single strut. In contrast to the standard strut plunger, the hybrid plunger exhibits a noteworthy reduction in weight of 34.15%; nonetheless, it can tolerate a maximum stress that is 55.4 percent more than the conventional variant.
