ABSTRACT

This study presents the design and implementation of an RFID reader in an entry/exit attendance system. Attendance management is a vital aspect of any professional setting. It accounts for an individual's commitment and participation in an organization, which provides accountability, regulatory compliance, and performance evaluation. The traditional methods used for managing attendance predominantly relied on manual processes and paper-based systems, which were laborious, time-consuming, lacking real-time monitoring capabilities, and prone to errors. In response to the limitations stated, this project aims to present a different approach to attendance tracking methodologies by developing and implementing a Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) reader in an attendance system. Leveraging an RFID reader, an Arduino Uno development board, a GSM module, a web server with a database system, and a web interface, the system records entry and exit times in real-time. The RFID reader scans the RFID cards, the Arduino processes the data, and the GSM module transmits records to the web server. Then, the web interface enables administrators to securely access, search, and generate reports on the attendance data. This project is significant because it has the potential to improve efficiency, accuracy, and security in attendance management processes in Nigeria.
