ABSTRACT
Attendance tracking during examinations is a critical activity in educational institutions, significantly impacting the integrity and efficiency of the examination process. Traditional methods, such as seating plans, examination passes, and roaster calls, have demonstrated various inadequacies, being notably time-consuming and labor-intensive. To address these challenges, this project proposes the development and implementation of a mobile attendance system leveraging fingerprint recognition technology. The primary aim of this project is to create a robust and automated attendance system using Android Studio for the front-end development, Java for the application logic, and Firebase for the backend services. The system is designed to streamline the process of attendance tracking by enabling students to authenticate their attendance via fingerprint scanning. This method ensures a higher level of accuracy and security compared to traditional methods. The mobile application allows students to register their fingerprints, which are then securely stored in the Firebase database. During examinations, students simply scan their fingerprints using the mobile application, which verifies their identity against the stored records and logs their attendance in real-time. This automated system reduces administrative workload, minimizes errors, and enhances the overall efficiency of attendance management. The system employs an object-oriented approach to system analysis and design, utilizing use case, class, and state machine diagrams to represent the system architecture. These design components form the backbone of the application, ensuring a scalable and maintainable structure. The project aims to provide a comprehensive solution for attendance tracking, from student registration and fingerprint validation to the generation of attendance records for various courses. By adopting this innovative approach, the project seeks to revolutionize the attendance tracking process at the University of Benin, Department of Computer Science, ensuring a modern, reliable, and efficient examination environment
