ABSTRACT
This paper presents the design and construction of a power stair for electricity generation using a rack and pinion mechanism. The power stair is a passive device that converts the kinetic energy of people walking into electrical energy. The design consists of a platform, each of which is equipped with a rack and pinion assembly. As people walk on the steps, the racks engage with the pinions, which drives a generator. The generated electricity can be stored in batteries. Conclusively, it was discovered that the system was able to produce enough an average of 7.9V on one cycle. The generated power is enough to power lights, appliances, or other devices that requires low voltage
