ABSTRACT
Doors and other entry systems are designed to secure properties, persons and other valuables in a home or building. Being able to monitor, secure and ultimately control access to one’s home at all times guarantees peace of mind and enables the homeowner to focus his/her energies properly as he/she goes about the daily business. This work aims to design a spy-camera controlled smart door security system that can be monitored and controlled remotely by the homeowner. The design employs a human sensor to detect human presence near the door, a distance sensor to monitor the target’s distance from the door, an audio system to guide the guest and an embedded spy-camera to view real time video of the door area. The implementation was carried out using an ESP32 Wi-Fi enabled spy-camera, SIM800 GSM module and ESP8266 NodeMCU with IoT capability and servo motor. This design implements a security system that notifies the guest on approaching the door, alerts the homeowner by SMS, enables the homeowner to control his door while viewing real time video of the door area through the web app. Door control is achieved through the web app interface or by sending predetermined SMS codes from a registered GSM number. An intruder alarm is activated when a security breach is detected. When opened, the door closes automatically after 15 seconds to prevent unauthorized access. The tests carried out after the construction showed that the design worked satisfactorily.
