For the purpose of achieving an effective class attendance system to eliminate the time spent using the traditional method of taking attendance, this work was designed and constructed. It is a microcontroller based class attendance system which functions for the effective registration, management and documentation of the institutional class attendance.
The work was realized using several modules which include Arduino Mega 2560 development board, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), Real Time Clock (RTC) Module, SD card Module and Fingerprint Module. The microcontroller unit of the Arduino Mega 2560 development board is the brain of the entire class attendance system and controls all modules. The microcontroller unit was thus programmed using the Arduino Software to enable the system function as a class attendance system.
The result of the testing done on the developed system showed that the system operates with a success rate of 95% when attendance is taken with clean dry fingerprints. This saves times and makes class attendance a fraud less one.
