DECEIT AND HYPOCRISY IN LOLA SHONEYIN’S THE SECRET LIVES OF BABA SEGI’S WIVES

ABSTRACT

This study examines hypocrisy and deceit in Ayobami Adebayo's Stay With Me and Lola Shoneyin's The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives. The fundamental analysis drawback during this study is hypocrisy and deceit as it concerns the society. The method adopted to hold out this analysis is qualitative data analysis and purposeful sampling method. Data is collected from the primary source which comprises both texts and secondary sources which includes textbooks,from the library,articles and online journals relevant to the study. Hypocrisy and deceit as described at intervals within the texts are for the purpose of pleasing the characters' spouses, avoiding criticism and embarrassment and maintaining peace in their matrimonial homes.
