ABSTRACT

This study focused on the cytomorphological characteristics, including stomatal development (stomatogenesis) and pollen grains (palynology), of Justicia carnea belonging to the Acanthaceae family. The study examined the leaves of J. carnea using light microscopy to observe stomatal density, stomata type, stomata size pollen morphology, stomatal morphology, and distribution patterns. The results of the study revealed that J. carnea has paracytic stomata, which is a characteristic feature of the Acanthaceae family. The stomatal density was found to be higher on the lower leaf surface compared to the upper surface. indicating a potential role in water conservation. Pollen grains of J. carnea were observed to be tricolporate which is a typical feature of Lamiales. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of the cytomorphological characteristics of J. carnea, which can provide valuable taxonomic information for future studies
