SUMMARY

This work has been able to examine non-identity and the dearth of culture using Helon Habila's Travelers and Sefi Atta's The Bead Collector. From this work, it is seen that Africa is still a far cry from recovering its lost identity and glory crushed by years of colonialism. This work addresses the present day reality that the mind of the African has been conquered and made a fertile ground for imperialism to prevail. It addresses the unfortunate act of seeing every thing good as Western and everything bad as African. This work has also revealed the far reaching effect of a subdued mindset as the present reality reveals that colonialism has only taken a different turn and it is called neo-colonialism. From this essay, it is observed that these actions that depict mental slavery, are a fruitful ground for other forms of abuse of Africans by the West like racism. This work also reveals that the shackles of imperialism and corrupt government in Africa has led to the massive migration to foreign shores where Africans in diaspora meet further challenges because their homes in Africa has become inhabitable.
