ABSTRACT

This study examined the Calabar Carnival and the Promotion of Indigenous Culture in Cross River State. Through the objective, the study examines the concept and nature of Nigeria Indigenous Culture, it also explores the origin of the Calabar Carnival, as well as examine the effects of Calabar Carnival on Indigenous Culture. In this study, it was revealed that the carnival's first edition was launched in 2004 in Cross Rivers State. The carnival has continued to be of great importance both to the Cross Rivers state and the country in general. The impact cut across the economy of the country, the act of culture and tourism, increasing standard of living, bringing Indigenes of Calabar and Nigerians in diaspora back to their home as well as drawing in foreign investors.
