ABSTRACT

This research work empirically examined the impact of covid-19 lockdown on micro scale business operations in Ugbowo, Benin City, the present challenges facing them as a result and the sustainability strategies adopted by them during the period under review.

The research design adopted for this study is a quantitative approach. The population targeted for this study consists of all micro scale business owners within Ugbowo, Benin city. One hundred business owners were sampled randomly. Instrument used for this study is the questionnaire.

The findings showed that major aspects of the activities of micro scale businesses were affected to a great extent. These includes restrictions in cash flows, reduction in customer patronage, and decrease in sources of supply. Most of the businesses adopted sustainability strategies such as going online to seek more patronage, finding new ways to deliver products and implementing business development trainings for staffs. We recommended that authorities should offer liquidity interventions to support firms in addressing their immediate challenges.
