ABSTRACT
The research project covid-19 and cyber security in Nigeria using the banking sector as a case study. The objective of this study aimed at finding out COVID-19 Pandemic impacts on Cyber Security in the banking sector in Nigeria, examining if online banking and e-payment usage has improved customers’ life by exposing them to other means of payments for online transactions during covid-19 and to find out solutions on how to deal with cyber issues affecting banks productivity. For this study, the survey research design was adopted. The choice of the design was informed by the objectives of the study as outlined in chapter one. This research design provides a quickly efficient and accurate means of assessing information about a population of interest. The population for this study were workers in the banking sector in Benin metropolis, Edo state, Nigeria. A total of 70 respondents were selected from the population figure out of which the sample size was determined. In conclusion, this paper described the different cybercrimes common during the covid 19 pandemic and analyzed the effect it has on every sector in the world. An analysis of these crimes in Nigeria was carried out and the result obtained revealed an increase in cybercrime during the covid 19 pandemic. The unemployment rate in the country has increased with a lot of daily earners being out of job for a long time. This has forced them to seek for other ways of making quick money by taking advantage of innocent citizens through various cybercrimes. This research revealed the need for more sensitization to create awareness among internet users to protect them from falling victims of these internet criminals. Internet users should protect their computer devices from cyber-attacks and ensure they stay safe whenever they are online.
