SUMMARY

The successes achieved by this Civilian Joint Task Force created the opportunity for them to be recognized by the Borno state government and given some levels of supports such as logistics, uniforms, arms and monthly salaries. To better coordinate their activities, the MNJTF was then mandated to provide them with some basic and rudimentary training in the handling, control and use of arms. A synergy was thereafter forged between the CJTF and the MNJTF in the area of intelligence sharing, identification of Boko Haram members, supporters and sympathizers as well as helping to guide them in the navigation of the complex terrain of Borno state, especially the Sambisa forest areas, Gwoza hills and all of the caves in the places.20

Only recently, the Emir of Gwoza whilst thanking the army for the reclamation of his domain from the insurgents equally pleaded that it is extremely important for the military to continue to work together with the locals, especially the hunters in order to totally defeat the insurgents. The army does not know the terrain. Only the locals do and as such, the synergy already forged between the CJTF and MNJTF must be seen to continue until the nation is completely delivered from the hands of the Boko Haram insurgents-cum-terrorists.
