ABSTRACT

This study investigates critically Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State. The aim of this study is to examine Corporate Social Responsibility projects of Shell. To achieve this aim, a field work was conducted in most of the communities in Yenagoa to examine the major projects carried out by Shell. A total of 406 questionnaires were distributed in the study area. Data generated from the field were feed into SPSS. Chi-square and correlation analytical techniques were used. The results from the analysis showed that Shell’s Corporate Social Responsibility projects carried out in Yenagoa has not influenced development in the area. It was also found that large percent of citizens in Yenagoa were not satisfied with Shell’s CSR projects. It was recommended therefore that for Shell Company to achieve any form of sustainable development, the host communities should be involved in the planning for CSR.
