ABSTRACT

This study investigated the relationship between corporate social responsibility and organisational development of manufacturing firms in Nigeria, while the specific objectives were to determine the effect of legal responsibility, economic responsibility, environmental responsibility, ethical responsibility and philanthropic responsibility on organizational development in manufacturing firms in Nigeria. It is an ex-post facto and field survey type of research. It employs combination of qualitative and quantitative research design for the year 2018-2020. A total of one thousand, one hundred and twenty six (1126) employees constituted the population while two hundred and eighty-five (285) formed the sample size for the purpose of administering questionnaire. Data generated were analysed by employing descriptive statistics, principal component factor analysis and least square regression method. The results revealed that legal, economic responsibility andenvironmental responsibility have significant influence and positively related to organisational development among manufacturing companies in Nigeria while ethical responsibility and philanthropic responsibility have no significant influence, but have positive relationship with organisational development. It recommended that companies should ensure that they carry out their corporate social responsibility in form of economic, ethical, environmental and philanthropic responsibility to shareholders, employees, host communities and the society in general in order to enhance organizational development.
