ABSTRACT
The study empirically investigated corporate social responsibility and it's impact on host community. Specifically, the study’s goals were to ascertain the relevance of CSR on the perception of host community of the firm, the reputation of the firm, and on the satisfaction of relevant stakeholders. The study focused on Agen Aluminum Company and the community in which it operates; Isihor, Ovia north east local government area of Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria. To achieve the stated objectives, four research questions were raised, and three hypotheses generated. The study population comprised residents of Isihor community, from which a sample of 100 respondents were selected using the non-probabilistic sampling technique. The study adopted survey research design which entailed the use of structured questionnaire in ascertaining the opinion of the respondents on the subject matter. Questionnaires were distributed, and 94% rate of return was actualized. The data obtained were sorted and analyzed using descriptive statistics, mean, simple percentage, and frequency count; while the linear regression was used in ascertaining the relationship between the study variable. Findings in the study revealed among other things that Agen Aluminum Company engages in a moderately high level of CSR activities, the host community have positive perception of the CSR activities of the firm, CSR significantly impacts on the reputation of the firm and on the overall satisfaction of its relevant stakeholders. Based on the findings, the study recommended among other things that firms should recognize the role of CSR in building and maintaining their reputation, and ensuring over satisfaction of its stakeholders. Hence, it is of immense importance for the firm to consistently uphold ethical standards, and endeavour to align its CSR activities with the values and expectations of the community.
