Abstract
This study examines coping mechanisms adopted by married women among Non - academic staffs of the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. Baby registration into nursery / childcare centers can act as coping mechanism among non-academic working women in University of Benin. This study adopted the survey research design with a sample of one hundred and twenty respondents (120), using questionnaires to source for data. The data collected was analysed using percentage and chi-square statistics. The result shows that baby registration into nursery / childcare centers can act as coping mechanism among non-academic working women in University of Benin. The result also revealed that employment of baby nanny can acts as coping mechanism among non-academic working women in University of Benin. The result further shows that there is no provision of breastfeeding facilities in departments to act as coping mechanism among non-academic working women in University of Benin. The study recommends that women should try to register their babies in nursery/childcare center closest to their place of work, as to ease tension at their working hour. The government should provide policies that support married women and childcare within specific period when the child, needs, enabling breastfeeding, parental maternity and paternity leave. The university author should corroborate with the federal government to provide basic breastfeeding facilities for women whose babies are below six month old. The fathers should be encouraged to take more childcare responsibilities, and provide early childhood education services that meet the needs of children and carers.
