ABSTRACT

Involvement in cooperatives could enhance well-being of cooperators or otherwise. This study was conducted to analyze the contributions of Agricultural co-operative societies on the well-being on small holder farmers in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria. The study specifically described the socio-economic characteristics of small-holder farmers in cooperative societies, examine the contribution of co-operative society to farming activities, examine the well-being of farmers before and after becoming members of a co-operative society, and identify the constraints that hinder small-holder farmers from the benefits of co-operative societies to their well-being in the study area.

Sample for the study was collected using a two-stage sampling procedure to obtain a total of 120 respondents. Primary data needed for the study were collected through personal interviews, using a structured questionnaire. Simple descriptive statistics such as frequency count, mean, percentages and standard deviation were employed for the data analysis, and the hypotheses were tested.
