ABSTRACT
This research work discusses the comparison of the inflectional morphemes (affixes) in English and Okpe languages. It aims to investigate the Inflectional processes between the two languages and ascertain the similarities and differences between the two languages. The scope of this research work has been restricted only to the comparison between the two systems of their inflectional affixes in English language and Okpe language. The qualitative descriptive method was used for the analysis of the data. The data was sourced through observation, interviews, and taken from books discussing about Affixation and Morphology. This research work adopted the Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis which is an area of linguistic studies that deals with the study of two or more languages and to make critical analysis and bring out the similarities and dissimilarities. We were able to find out the Inflectional affixes in English and Okpe Language. There are eight (8) Suffixes in English and they are added to Nouns, Verbs, pronouns, adjectives while in Okpe language inflectional affixes are added to Nouns through prefixation by replacing the initial vowel with a prefix "e" or " i" and in verbs, Suffixes "ro" "ri" "ru" "ye" are added to verb to indicate past tense. While for inflection for Adjectives in Okpe, the adjective comes after the noun its inflecting.
