ABSTRACT
The study was conducted to determine the consumption pattern and expenditure of Beef, mutton Chevon in Edo Central senatorial district (Esan west, Esan North East, Esan south east and Igueben Local Government Areas). 100 respondents were selected randomly from each of the Four local government area within the study area and information were generated using Structured questionairres involving Two Sections. The instruments was administered to the respondents. Data obtained from respondents were analysed descriptively using 2023 SPSS software package.
The results shows that the respondents group consist of 70% male and 30% Female who were mostly Non vegetarian (85%) with secondary education up to (60%). The percentage of the people among the respondents that do eat meat were in the high side (90%) Compared to these who do not(10%). It was observed that the Level of beef, mutton, chevon consumption and expenditure could be influenced by the different factors which may include age, religion, price, taste, occupation, income, household size, level of education, period of the year, as well as eating Habit of respondents. The beef, mutton chevon consumption and expenditure pattern of the respondents in the four local Government revealed that the most preferred consumed meat type is beef (74%), Chevon (25%) ,and Mutton (2%). In conclusion, the level of beef, chevon, mutton Consumption was found to be influenced by different factors which may include religion, period of the year, income, price, level of education, household size, nutrient content, cultural as well as eating habit of the respondents.
