ABSTRACT

Textile materials of necessity should be properly cared for and stored in a conducive environment. This is attributed to the fact that they are constantly exposed to heat, cold, humidity, fungus and insects. Unfortunately, the textile studio of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Benin does not have proper storage facilities for the adequate safekeeping of textile materials. The thrust of this study is to construct specially adapted compartments for storage and display of textiles. A comparative study of the various means of display of art in galleries, museums and art schools was done to ascertain the most appropriate concept to adopt for the construction. It is expected that this study will pave the way for suitable storage and display of textile products. This shall culminate in eradicating the continued degradation of textile fabrics and avail the students the opportunity to effectively showcase their scintillating fabrics.
