ABSTRACT
This work focuses on the step by step process of the production of a computer based, Mini dictionary software for the Ẹ̀dó Language.
The aim of this project, is to give an overview of the importance of computer and the global I.T world in our society, its relationship to our indigenous daily life and how it affects us.
This project consist of seven (7) chapters.
The first chapter consist of the first step, which is the introduction and thinking pattern of the development of the computer software programme.
The second chapter consist of the second step which is the gathering of the basic words in the source language which is English, and the collection of the equivalent words in the target language which is Ẹ̀dó.
The third chapter consist of the third step which is the collection of the parts of speech as well as the lexical items that are present in the Ẹ̀dó language
In the fourth step ideophones were collected and identified.
The fifth chapter consist of the gathering of the non-parts of speech,which are also known as particles. These are the other elements used in speaking, but they are neither nouns, nor pronouns nor in any of the group in the part of speech, they are the WH questions such as (who, why, when, where,) etc.
They also involve the markers such as negation marker (No, not, none, did not), also the tense marker which involve the future, past, present, etc.
Others are also known as auxiliary.
The sixth chapter consist of the major algorithm that generated the word listing and how the programme manages to generate the equivalents on screen, when prompted to do so.
The seventh chapter consist of the conclusion, terms and condition of the use of the software, as well as the possible recommendation towards achieving a better and more appropriate version of the programme in the future, and the result of the work.
