ABSTRACT
This research evaluates critically the relationship between language and advertising, using Affiliate marketers as a case study to show the different strategies deployed to achieve compulsion and emotional blackmail in advertising. It studies three different linguistic strategies used by Affiliates in influencing the actions and ideologies of consumers in relation to the Affiliate marketing business venture. Through detailed analysis, using the communication accomodation theory and adequate data from internet sources (Meta- Facebook, YouTube, Whatsapp, X, and TikTok), it is revealed that persuasive strategies used by Affiliates in advertising, regardless of how subtle, have the ability to affect the choices of consumers which in turn benefit Affiliates.
