COMPLIANCE WITH THE CODE OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE 2018 AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF LISTED COMPANIES IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

The study was on Compliance with the Code of Corporate Governance 2018 and   Financial Performance of Listed Companies in Nigeria. The objective of the study was to ascertain the extent to which company comply to the provisions of the code of corporate governance. In order to achieve this objective, secondary method of data collection was sourced from various listed companies in Nigeria within the scope of the study, 2015-2019. The study adopted the Ordinary Least Square regression method to analyze the data.

The study concluded that Compliance with the Code of Corporate Governance and Firm Performance are important among listed companies in Nigeria, while very little is empirically known about the implications relationship between the Code of Corporate Governance Compliance and Firm Performance in emerging economies like Nigeria. Having carried out an analysis on this research, it was evident that the Code of Corporate Governance was significantly related to Financial Performance of Companies in Nigeria. The study recommended among others that companies should view cooperate governance not as an end in itself but a vital facilitator to the creation of long term value for all stakeholders.
