COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS PRESENT IN THE ETHANOL SEEDS

ABSTRACT

Azanza garckeana, also known as African azanza (Majinda and Abubakar, 2016; Sunita et al., 2017) obtained from different parts of Tula in kaltungo Local Government of Gombe state, is a widely used medicinal plant in traditional medicine. The bioactive constituents in the ethanol extracts were identified and analyzed. The GC-MS analysis revealed a diverse range of bioactive compounds in the extracts of Azanza garckeana. The seed and root extracts showed variations in the presence and composition of these compounds. The result of the study revealed the presence of thirty-four (34) bioactive compound, Eighteen compound in the ethanol seed extract and sixteen compound in the root extract. Specific compounds, including Linoleic acid ethyl ester (conc 16.69%), Hexadecanoic acid ethyl ester (Conc 13.75%), and were found to be prominent in the seed extract, while Bicyclo[3.1.0]hex-3-en-2-one, 4-methyl-1-(1-methylethyl)- (conc 75.56%), Pentadecanoic acid, 14-methyl-, methyl ester (conc13.169%) were prevalent in the root extract. Some of which have been reported to have anticancer, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-androgenic, anti-inflammatory and hepato-protective properties. Comparing the bioactive constituents of ethanol extract of the seeds and root of A.garckeana have useful benefits that can be exploited for health benefits.
