ABSTRACT
Pharmacy is one of the most respected professions worldwide, and has undergone great developments over time. The cost of attending pharmacy school in the United States as well Nigeria is steadily rising due to several factors. Cost-sharing is the creation of charges or is the particular sharp increase in tuition charges to cover part of the charges of study, or of user charges to cover more of the expenses of accommodations, food and other expenses of student living that may have been born extensively by governments through tax paid or by institutions. A descriptive cross-sectional study of pharmacy students in Private, State and Federal Universities was carried out, a standardized and validated questionnaire using, sample size was 152 and study sample was obtained using convenient stratified sampling method, data was entered SPSS and analysed using descriptive and inferential methods. From the result obtained, majority of respondents were between the age of 20-29 with a percentage of 98%. Female respondents were more than the male respondent from the three universities with a percentage of 57.2% for the female and 42.8% for male. mean cost and standard deviation of study of pharmacy in private, state and federal universities are; ₦1,070,661.45±116,217.24, ₦267,445.24±52,326.75 and ₦167,528.95±59,592.57 respectively. For the cost of living, it is generally observed that private university has the highest mean cost of ₦170,915.96, while the state has a mean cost of ₦147,989.18 and federal university with a mean cost of living of ₦113,513.34. The study concluded that the cost-burden of Nigeria students studying pharmacy in Federal, State and Private Universities was discovered to be very high in terms of tuitions fees, clerkship, cost of textbooks, other study materials and Laboratory practical and manuals as well as the cost of living as a student within these institutions.
