COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE NATION AND GUARDIAN NEWSPAPERS

ABSTRACT

Elections are key parts of every society which should be treated with utmost importance. And during this period several individuals show interest in holding political positions and as such contest under different political parties as political candidates, and the media which is an agent of socialization takes keen interest in these activities. This project conduct a comparative analysis on the Nation newspaper and Guardian newspaper framing of Bola Tinubu’s 2023 campaign speeches. The way these newspapers present issues about Bola Tinubu’s campaign speeches are reviewed and analysed. The framing theory and the agenda setting theory were the theories used in the conduct of this research. The content analysis research design was used because the research generated it's data from newspapers. From the research conducted, the findings were; Ownership influence was greatly felt as majority of news stories in the Nation newspaper were placed on the front pages and published in a positive tone because, while for the Guardian newspaper published these stories while upholding the principles of the journalism practice. Finally, the researcher recommended that news on sensitive issues like political campaign speeches should be published unbiasedly without any form of influence or alteration on the story.
