ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine communication as a tool in enhancing organizational performance in some selected media houses in Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria. To actualize the objectives of this study, four research questions were raised, and four hypotheses were generated to guide the study. The study covered a sample size of one hunderd and seventy one (171) respondents which were staff and employees drawn randomly from four media houses in Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria namely: ITV, NTA, DAAR COM, and Silverbird TV. The study adopted questionnaire as research instrument to sample the opinion of the respondents on the research subject. A total of 171 questionnaires was distributed to employees from the selected media houses, retrieved and analyzed. The data gathered through the administering of questionnaires was analyzed using descriptive statistics through frequency distribution. The Multiple Ordinary Least Square regression technique was used totest the null hypotheses and ascertain the relationship between the variables using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.
The study showedthat employees work place plays a vital role in the success of an organizational endeavour as it ensures effective integration and interaction amongst employees in the organization and as well foster cooperation within the various sections. Similarly, effective teamwork and group effort helps to ensure overall organizational efficiency; furthermore, employee feedback is important to managers and decision makers in the organization as it helps to ensure the opinion, suggestions, and observations of the employees are heard and this in the long run will culminate into organizational success. Lastly, socio-cultural integration of employees is not an important factor of organizational success or performance.
The study recommended amongst other things that managers of businesses should ensure that they promote positiveworkplace relationships, resolve conflicts quickly, encourage open and honest communication amongst employees, promote teamwork, collaboration, trust and respect amongst employees, give feedback for every activity and process, establish an effective and efficient system for collecting feedback, adopting a participatory style of leadership and using a variety of communication channels and methods to facilitate communication between and amongst employees and management.
