COHENSION IN THE CAMPAIGN SPEECHES OF BOLA AHMED TINUBU

ABSTRACT

The research paper tend to illustrate the importance of cohesive strategies and how it is employed in the political speech by analyzing the campaign speech of Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the use of Halliday and Hasan’s (1976) approach to cohesion which is adopted as the theoretical framework for this project. In the speech different types of cohesive strategies are employed namely, Reference, Substitution and Lexical Cohesion which brings about understanding political speech. This research makes use of a qualitative methodology and analyzing the speech with focus on the various strategies used in Bola Ahmed campaign speech which conveys certain messages in relation to social and political context and is further analyzed to reach a certain goal.
