CLASS SIZE AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

Teachers have found it difficult to understand the connection between academic achievement and class size. Few studies have examined the relationship between student academic achievement and class size, despite the fact that numerous academics have put up numerous theories as to why students perform poorly. Thus, this study uses elementary school children in the Ovia North East Local Government Edo State as a case study to investigate the relationship between class size and children's academic performance. Using a straightforward percentage statistical technique, four null hypotheses were presented and examined. The results showed that a big class size had a negative impact on pupils' academic performance. A national policy regarding the teacher-student ratio should be put into effect, according to the report. More qualified teachers should be employed and workshops should be organized for already employed ones. More classrooms should be built with up-to-date facilities and improve on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) that would aid the teaching-learning process.
