ABSTRACT

The present study was carried out to screen the phytochemicals chemical constituents of Caladium bicolor leaf. GC-MS system consisting of a Perkin Elmer Technology Model Clarus 600 (EI) was used to identify the metabolites by matching their recorded mass spectra with the standard mass spectra from National Institute of Standards and Technology (NISTOS LIB) Libraries provided by the software of the GCMS system.

The phytochemical Screening indicated the presence of tannins, phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins from the hydroethanol leaf extract of Caladium bicolor . The GCMS analysis  revealed the major bioactive compounds present in the hydroethanol extract they include; Pentadecanoic acid, 14 methyl-, methyl ester, 9,12- Octadecadienoic acid, methyl ester, 9-Octadecenoic acid (Z)-, methyl ester, 9-Octadecenoic acid, methyl ester,(E), Methyl stearate, Methyl 18-methylnondeconate, Thumbergol and Docosanoic acid methyl ester.
