ABSTRACT

Pineapple(Ananas Comosus) is a nutritious fruit that is commonly consumed in Nigeria.It is used for medicinal, industrial purposes.It has a high sugar content and a low PH which makes it susceptible to fungi. This study identify those pathogens that were responsible for the spoilage of pineapple. 5 pineapples were gotten  from Mr Azegbe farm while 1 was gotten from Efehi Street in New Benin market  both in Edo state, it was transported  from Mr. Azegbe farm and Efehi street, New Benin Market to Microbiology Laboratory in University Of Benin were the pathogens were studied. The samples were treated with a standard procedures.The samples were handled according to accepted practises. Sabouraud destose agar (SDA) and patotoe destose agar (PDA) were the culture media employed in this investigation. In this investigation, the fungi that cause pineapple to degrade were found to be; Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium sp, Pennicilium sp, Rhizopus arhinus .The bacteria responsible for the deteriorationof pineapple include; Bacillus substilis, Streptococcus aureus, Klebsiella oxytoca.
