ABSTRACT
This research was undertaken to identify, antibiogram and know the virulence factors of S. aureus, E.coli, Klebsellia sp. Proteus sp. Bacillus sp. Pseudomonas sp. Streptococcus sp. recovered from clinical sources (urine and saliva). This study was carried out at the Laboratory Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Science, University of Benin. Ten bacterial isolates from urine and saliva were collected with sterile test tubes containing a prepared nutrient broth. The isolates were then cultured on a prepared nutrient broth medium in sterile test tubes and incubated at 370 C for 18 - 24 hours. Series of biochemical test were carried to identify the isolates. Pure cultures of the bacterial isolates were grown on the surface of 5% defribrinated sheep blood agar that is made with nutrient agar and incubated at 37 degree Celsius for 72hrs. Lysing of the red blood cells is indicated by a clear halo around the inoculum spot indicative of haemolysin production. MacFarland standard (0.5) was prepared by mixing 0.05ml of 1% barium chloride (BaCl2) with 9.95ml of 1% sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to barium sulphate suspension. The turbid solution (McFarland standard) formed was transferred into a test tube for comparison with bacterial inoculums suspension. All isolates S. aureus, E.coli, Klepsellia sp. Proteus sp. Bacillus sp. Pseudomonas sp. Streptococcus sp. were susceptible to ciprofloxacin and resistant to Ofloxosin, Vancomycin and Tetracycline. Hemolytic result of the ten isolates were beta hemolysis. From this study it can be inferred that ciprofloxacin could be employed for treatment of S. Aureus, E.coli, Klebsellia sp. Proteus sp. Bacillus sp. Pseudomonas sp. and Streptococcus sp. Infections.
