SUMMARY
This study has shown the damages done on the girl child in Chika Unigwe's On Black Sister's Street using literary elements like characterization and other literary devices. The essay lends a voice in the fight against gender based violence and contributes to the unanimously accepted notion that the sexual objectification of women and the treatment of women as mere properties of sexual pleasure is a menace that has accounted for the damage of many girls.
In a society where the increase in girl child abuse has led to more agitations and non-governmental organizations springing up in response to this menace, both novels are a pointer to the fact that radical measures must be taken to eradicate the cases of rape of underage girls and sexual molestation. And with the fact that prostitution is still a general and common place profession, the African society must be alert to sex traders who molest young girls and brutalize them, carting them away like commodities to be instruments of pleasure.
