CHALLENGES OF TRAINING TERTIARY INSTITUTION TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS ON ELECTRICAL SKILLS

ABSTRACT

The study sought to examine the Challenges of Training Tertiary Institution Technology Students On Electrical Skills: A Case Study of Electrical and Electronics Education Students in the University of Benin. The study was carried out among 30 respondents who are 300 and 400 level students of Electrical and Electronic education in the Department of vocational and technical Education, Univeristy of Benin. Through a 4 likert scaled questionnaire that was validated dby the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in the field; The findings of the analysis showed that; issues such as theoretical emphasis over practical training, limited resources, outdated curriculum, inadequately trained teachers, and strikes significantly hinder the proper training of technology students in electrical skills. The findings also discovered that: Inadequate funding, insufficient technological facilities, limited access to modern equipment, lack of alignment between academia and industry, and over-admission of students are recognized as major factors contributing to the training challenges faced by technology students specializing in electrical skills. The study recommended that education planners shsould Undertake a comprehensive review of the curriculum to ensure it reflects current industry standards and practices. Emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, thereby better preparing students for the demands of the workforce.
